Tissue Paper Gift Wrap

It is so easy to make gift wrap with tissue paper, just stamp and voila, gift wrap. Now you're probably thinking one layer of tissue paper is too thin. True, but you can stamp on colored tissue paper or use several layers of tissue paper to make it opaque. You may want to use this stamped tissue paper for lining a box; in this case it doesn't have to be opaque, just creative. You may also apply the tissue paper to freezer wrap to make it stronger and more opaque.

Caution: Tissue paper is much more absorbent than cardstock so you don't want your ink pads to be real wet (or your wheels) otherwise the colors will bleed a bit. See the wheel example below (bottom left).

  Supplies:

  • tissue paper, white or colored
  • ink pads
  • stamps or wheels
  • an imagination

  Idea 1: Wheels
Wheels are the fastest and easiest way to make gift wrap. You can use one wheel with one color or a couple of wheels with possibly a couple of colors. You don't have to line up the images, you can make them somewhat random if you like, depending on the design.

  Idea 2: Layers
I like to stamp 2 pieces of tissue paper with coordinating stamps and colors, then layer them. You can get some wonderful effects this way, and it makes the finished product more opaque. You could use these as a single layer and put a couple of pieces of solid white or colored tissue paper behind them.

Note:

When stamping on tissue paper, it will bleed through a little bit. You want to have something under the tissue paper to protect your table. In this example, I stamped the first layer of squares then laid the next piece of tissue paper on top and stamped the top layer. Look closely at the bottom layer, you can see some of the leaves that bled through. In this example I didn't care. I knew I would use the two layers together so it didn't matter. Be careful because sometimes it may matter.

  Idea 3: Colored Tissue Paper
You can stamp on colored tissue paper and depending on how dark it is, one layer may be enough. If you're using a dark paper you will have to be careful what colors of ink you use. White, silver and gold general stand out on most solid colors.

  Idea 4: Embossing
You can emboss on tissue paper just like cardstock, but it's a bit trickier just due to the size of the paper. Try this on smaller pieces of gift wrap.
